SYPG Foundation
More than a dance school, SYPG strives to be a positive force in our community, sowing the seeds of a lifelong affection for creativity and culture.
Our Mission
In 2012, the SYPG Foundation was created to provide financial and community outreach support to local organizations that strive for arts excellence.
The SYPG Foundation’s community outreach programs help dancers learn the importance of community service at a young age. See below for descriptions of our current programs. We are always looking for volunteers, sponsors, and donors who are interested in joining our mission. If you’d like to learn more about supporting SYPG foundation, contact us.
Mighty Movers
Mighty Movers is a gross motor skills program for children with developmental delays and at-risk youth. We are thrilled to partner with Hope School, Enos Elementary, St. Patrick’s Catholic School, and The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Illinois so students of all ages benefit from this program. Physical activity benefits children and adolescents by increasing fitness, boosting self-esteem and establishing friendships.
Provided through a grant from the Springfield Memorial Foundation.
The Smile Co.
The Smile Co. is a special community outreach program giving performing arts experiences of beloved fairy tale princesses and child friendly characters that will visit children in need of a smile due to a medical condition or special circumstance.
Books on Stage
The written and spoken word is an art form and is cultivated for children through Books on Stage. In a classroom or library setting literary arts blend with the performing arts as the book’s main character comes to life. The Books on Stage program has been created to targets schools that have been affected with budgetary constraints to their libraries.
Musical Chairs
You can dance at any age and with any range of abilities. Dancing - or moving in general - helps with activities of daily living, improves, and strengthens the mind/body connection, and adds joy to life. Musical Chairs is a chair-based fitness/dance class designed for seniors to improve strength and balance and overcome physical limitations and stay active while socially interacting.
Bravery Ambassadors
Bravery Ambassadors is a program created especially for alumnae and Studio Company Members of Springfield Youth Performance Group to reach beyond their dance experience to boost community involvement, foster continued education, and build future leaders. Bravery Ambassadors will engage with community representatives to learn more about the world we live in and develop projects to make it even better, as well as mentor younger SYPG dancers.
Bravery Ambassadors are empowered to bridge the arts to philanthropy. By expanding their horizons, the world for our youth becomes even bigger and brighter.
The National Honor Society for Dance Arts™ (NHSDA)
SYPG Foundation is an Institutional Member of The National Dance Education Organization (NDEO, Chapter 14418). The National Honor Society for Dance Arts™ (NHSDA) program is one of the most exciting benefits that NDEO offers. Its mission is to recognize outstanding artistic merit, leadership, and academic achievement in students studying dance in public and private schools in K-12 education, dance studios, cultural/community centers, performing arts organizations, and post-secondary education, and to foster an appreciation for dance as a true art form and one worthy of recognition and prestige.
